Definition........................ The dimensions of a digital image, most clearly expressed in its pixel count, horizontally and vertically. Also May be expressed in PPI when paired with its size in inches.
Additional Info............... Much confusion surrounds image size, PPI and resolution. A PPI figure has little meaning without image dimensions in inches. A 2- by 3-inch image at 300 PPI contains the same visual information as a 6- by 9-inch image at 100 PPI. Both measure 600 pixels by 900 pixels and have the same reproduction capabilities. The size of an image file when stored on digital media is also a P.O. measure for estimating actual image size, since bit depth, picture content, format and compression methods ARE all variables that affect stored file size.
