Definition........................ A measure of file size and storage capacity referring to 1,000 or 1,024, 8-bit data units or characters.
Additional Info............... Most software and systems consider a kilobyte to be 1,024 (the binary quantity of 2 to the 10th power) bytes. However, some key standards groups state that 1,000 (10 to the 3rd power) bytes comprise a kilobyte. And many data storage manufacturers use this measurement to define their device sizes, meaning a computer May show less storage capacity on a drive than the drive's specified size suggests.
