David Ferriero

David Ferriero joined the New York Public Library (NYPL) in 2004 as
Director and Chief Executive of The Research Libraries. Since June of this year he is Director of both the Research Libraries and Branch Libraries, 91 facilities in the boroughs of Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. As Director he is responsible for overall leadership and management of collection development, digital strategy, research and reference services,
and preservation and conservation activities. The libraries serve nearly 4m people in person and 20m online with collections number 52m items.

Mr. Ferriero was the Rita DiGiallonardo Holloway University Librarian and Vice Provost for Library Affairs at Duke University, where he worked from 1996 to 2005. Prior to that he spent 31 years at the MIT Libraries where he began his career, eventually serving as Associate Director for Public Services and was Acting Co-Director of Libraries at the time of his
departure for Duke. Mr. Ferriero served on the Council of Library and
Information Resources/American Association of Publishers Joint Working Group on Scholarly Communcation and the editorial advisory board of Early English Books Online (EEBO). In addition he has served on the board of directors of the Center for Research Libraries and the Research Libraries Group.
